Global Seed Vault in Svalbard

It's been almost a year-and-a-half since I had the privilege to stand there at the Global Seed Vault, more than 800 miles north of the Arctic Circle, in the archipelago of Svalbard.

Three minutes after this picture was taken, I slipped on a sheet of solid ice and slammed my left shin into the metal stairs of a bus.

But I still would do it all over again.

Two days ago, the Norwegian Ministry of Agriculture released a new video showing the inside of the vault and explaining its value to the world (a value made more tangible when the first withdrawal was made last year, as a result of the horrors of the Syrian war).

Check out the video here.
